I’m a linguistics PhD candidate at the University of Michigan, though that is not the whole of my identity – truly, green boots and orange clothing are:

I have an MA in Linguistics from the University of Virginia and a BA in Philosophy and Communication from American University. My academic interests are varied but center on sociocultural linguistics, discourse analysis, computer-mediated communication, language variation, media, linguistics pedagogy, mass media representation of language and linguistics, and language ideologies (which basically encompasses all of these other topics). I’m currently on the prowl for a dissertation topic. I am also the editorial assistant for the Journal of English Linguistics and active in my graduate union, GEO.
I live in Ann Arbor, MI. I came here from Charlottesville, VA, by way of Boston, DC, and unnamed boring towns in Missouri (with pit stops in Rome and Honolulu). I will always like Charlottesville best, though Ann Arbor has been growing on me ever since that one dance party in February. My hobbies include tapdancing, jogging, moviegoing, beerdrinking, friendvisiting, and, as of late, completely unironic RealHousewiveswatching.
